Poorly maintained equipment and sites are huge contributors to such high quantities of methane being emitted on a daily basis. Early and quantifiable detection, reparation and upkeep are recognised as solutions to the methane issue.
Methane is short lived in our atmosphere, so measuring and controlling these emissions would show quick results in our fight against rising global temperatures.
Recent human activities have seen the fasts rise in methane emissions for many years, with oil and gas fields being recognised as ‘super emitters’. With the data and technology we have available to us there is really no excuse for the energy industry to not reduce its global impact.
